This is a heart-stopping survival tale of an 81-year-old man, Jerry Jouret, a former NASA employee, who got stranded alone for nearly a week on a deserted California highway due to a severe snowstorm. All he had to survive on were croissants, candy, and biscotti.

Jerry's family got worried when he didn't arrive in Gardnerville, his destination about 3 hours from his Big Pine mountain house. The mathematician had started his journey during clear weather but a snowstorm hit before he could reach his destination.

Over the next few days, continuous winter storms rocked the region, making it tough for the Inyo County’s Search and Rescue team to start a search along Highway 168 for a day. CNN reports that Jerry was caught off guard, dressed only in a light windbreaker and a thin quilt and hotel towel to keep warm.

Jerry displayed wisdom by conserving his car battery and fuel, only starting his SUV periodically to keep warm. He even ate snow to stay hydrated, but this strategy went south when the battery died while he was rolling up the window, leaving it stuck open a few inches for the rest of his time stranded.

After two unsuccessful attempts to find Jerry, he was finally located on March 2nd. A helicopter pilot found him waving from his car's partially open window. Jerry was rescued and was discharged from the hospital later that evening, having suffered only from dehydration.

The Inyo County Sheriff’s Office took this incident as an opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of preparation and having a safety plan when traveling, especially through mountainous regions. 🚢 Passenger Mysteriously Disappears After 'Leaping' Overboard as Cruise Ship Heads Back to Florida

Hey there, some rather serious news coming in. A 30-year-old man has gone missing from a Carnival cruise ship off the Florida coast. The ship was returning from a four-day Bahamas trip, and his friend only realized he was gone when he didn't show up all day. After looking at the CCTV footage, it seems like he jumped off the ship. 😔

The U.S. Coast Guard is on it, searching about 95 nautical miles east of Melbourne, Florida. The search team includes guys from St. Petersburg, Clearwater, and Miami.
