đïž On April 9th, 1865, one of the most significant events of the American Civil War occurred: the surrender of Confederate General Robert E. Lee to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House in Virginia. This event effectively marked the end of the Civil War, although some smaller skirmishes and surrenders would continue for a short while longer.
âThe Javan tiger still existsâ: DNA Find May Herald an Extinct Speciesâ Comeback

So, imagine this: Ripi Yanuar Fajar and his buddies are chilling after Indonesia's Independence Day bash back in 2019 when, out of nowhere, they spot a big cat prowling around a plantation in Sukabumi, West Java. Now, Ripi's not just any guyâhe's all about conservation. So, he hits up Kalih Raksasewu, a researcher at Indonesia's National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), telling her they might've seen a Javan leopard or even a Javan tiger, which folks thought was extinct since the 1980s.
Fast forward about 10 days, and Kalih's on-site with Ripi and the gang, finding clues like hair snagged on a fence and footprints. She sends all the deets to the West Java Provincial Conservation Agency and fires off a letter to the provincial bigwigs for backup. Long story short, the hair sample gets sent to BRIN for some serious lab work. And guess what? The results blow minds: that hair's got a whopping 97.8% match to the long-lost Javan tiger! Suddenly, everyone's buzzing about how this critter might still be roaming around, making a surprise comeback in one of the most packed places on Earth. (Source)
âI Was Born Without a Uterus but My Gym Buddy Volunteered to Have My Babyâ
Brooke Smith-Sanders, and husband Walt Sanders with their twins Maverick and Shepherd â SWNS
For most of us, a gym buddy is just someone who spots us during squats and shares some pre-workout laughs. But for Brooke Smith-Sanders, her gym buddy Dawn Crawley became her real-life hero. See, Brooke couldn't carry a child due to being born without a uterus. Tough break, right? So, after some surrogacy setbacks, Dawn stepped up, age 47 and all, to carry Brooke and Walt's dreams in her belly. After a rollercoaster ride of attempts, Dawn hit the jackpot and brought twin miracles, Maverick and Shepherd, into the world.
Now, fast forward to November 1stâboom! The twins arrive, a bit early but healthy, thanks to Dawn's bravery and some NICU love. Sure, the journey had its ups and downs, like a CrossFit workout on steroids, but Brooke's now got two little reminders every day that miracles do happen. And you know what? She's spreading that hope around like confetti, telling folks facing infertility to seek support early and never give up. Because, hey, sometimes life's toughest challenges bring the sweetest rewards. (Source)

Alright, check this out: Ross Cook, a fiery-haired Brit, just smashed records by becoming the first person ever to run the entire length of Africa, landing himself in Tunisia with a victory strut and a well-deserved strawberry daiquiri. Picture this: 385 marathons in 352 days, over 10,000 miles covered, all while dodging everything from visa headaches to sandstorms, not to mention getting mugged at gunpoint in Angola. But here's the kicker: Ross isn't just in it for the bragging rights. Nah, he's raised a whopping ÂŁ650,000ânearly a million bucksâfor charity along the way, proving that sometimes the toughest challenges bring out the biggest hearts.
His epic journey took him through 16 countries, from South Africa's southern tip to the shores of the Mediterranean. And let me tell you, it wasn't all smooth sailing. From battling food poisoning in Cameroon to needing a British government intervention to cross into the Algerian Sahara, Ross faced more obstacles than a ninja in a maze. But in the end, he powered through, with a little help from his friends and a whole lot of grit. And as he crossed that finish line, surrounded by a pack of inspired runners, Ross showed us all what it means to go the extra mileâliterally. (Source)
