This smog was a massive air-pollution event that affected London for five days. It was so dense that visibility was reduced to just a few meters! This event led to major changes in environmental policies and public awareness about air pollution. So, December 4th reminds us of the importance of taking care of our air โ€“ a bit of a historical nudge to keep our environment clean!

๐ŸŽ“ Principal Adopts Student Who Was Sent to His Office

Jason and Raven โ€“ released courtesy of Marybeth Smith

Imagine being a middle school principal and deciding to adopt a student who was often in trouble. That's exactly what happened in Kentucky with Principal Jason Smith. He noticed Raven Whitaker, a 6th-grader who had been suspended for throwing a yogurt cup. But Raven's story was more complex; she had spent her life in foster homes. Jason sensed she needed a break, something to finally go in her favor.

After discussing with his wife Marybeth, who saw something special in Raven, they decided to foster her. The Smiths had faced their struggles, including infertility and unsuccessful attempts to adopt other foster children. But with Raven, things felt different. Despite Raven's initial skepticism and tests to see if this family was for real, the warmth and sincerity of the Smiths won her over.

Fast forward to 2017, and Raven officially became part of the Smith family. With the support of her new family, including a principal for a dad, Raven's school performance improved dramatically. She graduated and went on to study social work at the University of Kentucky. It's a story of how a little understanding and a lot of love can change a life. (Source)

๐ŸŽ„ FedEx Delivers 300,000 Free Christmas Trees to Military Families With Annual Trees for Troops Program

Trees For Troops / FedEx

This holiday season, FedEx is on a special mission: delivering Christmas joy to military families across the U.S. with their annual Trees for Troops program. They're shipping nearly 16,000 Christmas trees to over 90 military bases nationwide, hitting a heartwarming milestone of 300,000 trees delivered since the program started. Partnering with the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation, FedEx Freight has been a key player in this initiative, logging over 600,000 miles in 18 years to bring farm-grown Christmas trees to both domestic and international U.S. military bases.

It all began in 2005 with a 'crazy idea' that started small - delivering 4,300 trees to just five bases. Now, it's grown into a massive endeavor and a beloved tradition for FedEx Freight, bringing a slice of holiday spirit to military families. Lance Moll, President and CEO of FedEx Freight, expressed pride in supporting the program, highlighting the company's commitment to giving back to communities and military families.

Want to be part of this festive cheer? The public can donate trees for delivery to a base, with some locations offering online purchase options. This initiative isn't just about delivering trees; it's about delivering smiles and Christmas spirit, one tree at a time, to those who serve the country. (Source)

๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ Treasure For 3 Miles: A Scatter Trail from the Most Famous Shipwreck is Uncovered Behind the Maravillas

Gold from the Maravillas including a gem-inlaid pendant made for the Knights of the Order of Santiago ยฉ Allen Exploration

Imagine a treasure hunt, but underwater! The Spanish galleon Maravillas, lost over 300 years ago in the Bahamas, was once thought picked clean by salvagers. But guess what? There's more! Allen Exploration spent four years underwater and found a treasure trail over 5 kilometers long. This ship, loaded with silver and gold, sank in 1656 and got salvaged multiple times. But Carl Allen's team from AllenX has now discovered a huge scatter of artifacts, including coins, emeralds, and more, proving there's still a lot left to find.

Dive into the details, and you'll see all sorts of cool stuff they found, like olive jars, silver coins, and even gold jewelry. Everythingโ€™s mapped out, from musket balls to gemstones. The team's research suggests that it's not just storms scattering the treasure. Surprisingly, precious personal items like gold chains were also found along this trail. They think these treasures were spread out before the Spanish salvage operations began, way back in 1656.

Here's a twist: The Maravillas was in the Trade-wind Belt, and winter storms probably helped scatter the treasures. The most finds were from the sterncastle - think fancy dining stuff, swords, and gold. Plus, there's a hint of smuggling - the ship might've carried double its declared cargo value! AllenX is now revealing all this cool history and research for the Bahamas Maritime Museum, adding a new chapter to the Maravillas story. AllenX, licensed since 2019, is keeping the Bahamian government updated with their underwater discoveries. (Source)
