So, get this: some quick-thinking firefighters in Minnesota turned into ice heroes in a rather unique rescue operation. A large deer found itself in a slippery situation on Pike Lake, struggling to stand up on the frozen surface. Its legs were even poking holes into the ice – talk about a precarious position! Enter the Prior Lake Fire Department. After getting a call from concerned locals, these firefighters came up with an out-of-the-box rescue plan.

Instead of the usual rescue methods, these guys went for something a little more... Olympic. They borrowed a technique straight out of curling – yes, the sport with the stones and brooms on ice. Armed with a Y-shaped pole, the firefighters carefully maneuvered across the thin ice and managed to push the deer, much like a curling stone, towards the safety of the shore. Talk about cool under pressure!

This story gets even better – the whole thing was caught on video! The firefighters, decked out in protective gear, crawled on their hands and knees to reach the stranded buck. After a delicate push-and-slide operation, the deer was safely back on shore, unharmed. It was a dicey situation for sure, but thanks to some innovative thinking (and maybe a bit of curling know-how), the deer lived to prance another day. (Source)

💌 10-Year-old Girl's Idea for a ‘Postbox to Heaven’ is Rolled Out Nationally Across Cemeteries in UK

Matilda Handy with her Letters to Heaven postbox – SWNS

Meet Matilda Handy, a 10-year-old with a heartwarming idea that's touching hearts across the UK. After losing both her grandparents, Matilda wished she could still send them letters. Her idea? A 'postbox to heaven.' Thanks to her mom, Leanne, who approached Gedling Crematorium in Nottingham, Matilda’s wish became a reality. They set up an old postbox, painted white and gold, right in time for Christmas last year.

This beautiful gesture resonated with many, and now, these special postboxes are available in 40 locations across England, Scotland, and Wales. The first box at Gedling, where Matilda dropped her initial message, was a hit, and it wasn't long before over 100 letters were left by others longing to connect with their loved ones.

The concept has grown beyond the UK, with funeral directors adopting the idea. Even countries as far as Australia are taking inspiration. Matilda, reflecting on the impact of her idea, expressed gratitude, knowing that her postboxes are helping not just her family but people all around the world. (Source)
