🗓️ Oh, hey! Did you know that August 11th is a pretty cool date in history? It's the day in 1984 when President Ronald Reagan made his infamous joke during a soundcheck for a radio address. He said, "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes." He didn't know the mic was live, and it caused quite the stir. Talk about an unexpected moment in history! 😅

🌊 Tragedy at Sea: Migrant Boat Capsizes Off Tunisia, Leaving Many Dead

In a heartbreaking incident, 41 people are presumed dead after a boat carrying migrants capsized off the coast of Tunisia in rough seas. The metal boat, which left Sfax, Tunisia, on August 3 with 45 passengers, was toppled by a massive wave six hours into the journey. Luckily, four survivors managed to cling to inner tubes and find safety on an empty nearby vessel. They were later rescued by a commercial tanker and brought to the Sicilian island of Lampedusa. Photos of the survivors waving for help have been shared by humanitarian rescue groups, and the Red Cross has confirmed that they are in good condition.

The International Organization of Migration has said that this incident raises the death toll in the central Mediterranean to over 1,800, making it the most dangerous migration route in the world. Sadly, rough seas over the weekend have led to other shipwrecks and dramatic rescue attempts. In recent months, Tunisia's eastern coast, notably the port city of Sfax, has become a main departure point for migrants trying to reach Europe. Calls are now pouring in for Europe to establish safe and legal pathways of migration to prevent future tragedies like this one. (Source)

🔧 A Plumber's Heart of Gold: Helping Vulnerable People Across the UK

James Anderson, a 54-year-old plumber from England, is making a huge difference with his social enterprise DEPHER (Disabled & Elderly Plumbing and Heating Emergency Repairs). DEPHER provides vital services to people struggling with the rising cost of living, including everything from emergency plumbing and heating services to covering funeral costs and delivering food parcels. Over the past six years, Anderson and his team have assisted more than 52,000 families, reaching around two million people.

But James isn't stopping at plumbing. He's become known as “Britain’s kindest plumber” for going above and beyond to support the elderly and vulnerable. One time, when an energy company wrongly took £765.89 from a 78-year-old woman, James not only covered her shopping costs but got her a full refund from the energy company. DEPHER has now grown to 13 employees, working all over the country, and their GoFundMe set up to prepare for winter has received a remarkable £63,610 out of their £100,000 goal. This modern-day hero reminds us that kindness can be found in unexpected places! (Source)

🍦 Toilet Bowl Chocolate Ice Cream: A Controversial Dessert at Gordos Restaurant

Source: odditycentral

Gordos, a well-known restaurant in Holon, Israel, is stirring up quite a buzz with its latest dessert offering: chocolate ice cream served in a realistic toilet bowl. The dessert, called "Third House of Shit," isn't just attracting attention for its unappetizing appearance; the name itself is sparking outrage. In Jewish religion, the "Third House" or "Third Temple" refers to a hypothetical rebuilt temple in Jerusalem, so linking it with a toilet-themed dessert is seen as disrespectful by many.

Social media reactions have been intense, with less focus on the gross-out factor of the dessert and more on the name's offensive nature. Some accuse Gordos of a lack of respect for the religious side of the country, while others see the dessert as a desperate attention-seeking stunt. While toilet bowl ice cream isn't entirely new, Gordos' attempt to create a realistic (and controversial) version has certainly made them the talk of the town - for better or worse. (Source)
